Acute cor pulmonale is an emergency situation arising from a sudden dilatation of the right ventricle as a result of pulmonary embolism. WebCor pulmonale is defined as ‘hypertrophy of the right ventricle resulting from diseases affecting the function or structure of the lung, except when the pulmonary alterations are the result of diseases that primarily affect the left side of the heart or of congenital heart disease’.
