Just about the same price to hard chrome, NP3, nickle, etc. Use the old one as a practice gun and get a new 642 (with no Hillary lock.) I do have two 642s. One a "Pro" model, sans Hillary lock, I carry often and the other a scratched up 642 I got for $300, tax ...

WebDec 12, 2024 · I think maybe the finish on the frame is different with the one on the slide. Or the quality of how it was put on. The metal part of the slide hitting the rails on the frame didn’t have wear on them. Also got some different parts on the frame with the finish coming off. Even the entry part of the accessory rail had some of the finish rubbing off. WebNov 17, 2024 · Up. -3. Down. If it is Black stainless, I have heard this happening many times as the finish is just a coating. Over time it seems to peel off. If it’s stainless steel, they use an outer coating as well to keep it fingerprint-resistant. Anything other than soap and water will eventually, on some models, cause it to peel.

This would remove the greasy smears quite common on kitchen surfaces. Wipe off the residue and let the surface dry. Lightly sand the worn area, wipe off the sanding dust then proceed in applying the stain.
